OUR STORY

Who is Fern? From Cody Rilo:

Fern is a French Bulldog. She was a Puppy Mill Mama who was bred for profit for the first 4 years of her life. National Mill Dog Rescue brought her from Iowa to Peyton, CO. Fern was all of my heart, from the moment I met her & became her Kennel Buddy. She was our first foster dog. She was sassy, loyal, bossy & just about the best darn girlfriend I’ve ever had!

October 14, 2007 is her birthday & the day we celebrate!

Fern passed away from Breast Cancer Metastasis 2 years ago after a long life of managing her numerous health issues. We honor her here & all of the dogs that have passed through our hearts.

Fern’s Diner and Fern herself are energetic. They are both bold without being too much or too colorful. Both bring you into a homely vibe and provide warmth. The nature of Fern’s brings in more rich sounds than the tin sounds of the city. Being vegan is a principled lifestyle, a religion, and we are proud of that religion. Being a vegan diner in a tourist destination and/or at the base of a famous mountain needs to carry a confident, strong voice. Like Fern, we want to lure you in with our looks and warm your soul with our hospitality. We are soft on the outside and bold on the inside.

Our main colors are blue, yellow and green. The blue represents water, the basis of life. Yellow represents the sun, an important companion to life and happiness. The green represents plants and nature, life feeding life. To recognize the complexity of life and nature’s way, we choose to be vegan so that we practice what we preach, which is the desire to be free. To be free means to engage in all things voluntarily without coercion. To be free means to give consent and to act as one wants to act. We would not be living to our principal if we impeded on any living being’s freedom.

We are a vegan diner and gathering spot celebrating our location at the base of Pikes Peak and Pike National Forest. We want to showcase what it looks like to stick a classic diner into a forest at the base of a mountain.

“Because we are a vegan diner at the base of a mountain and forest, we will provide a harmonious space to eat, drink and share our experiences. We will embrace happiness, nature, and comfort in our food, drink, service and environment. “
